United Way North Central Florida Announces Hiring of Recovery Coordinator to Lead Tri-County Disaster Recovery
[Gainesville, Fla.]— United Way North Central Florida (UWNCFL) is pleased to announce the hiring of Katie Hammers as the Tri-County Recovery Coordinator for Recover Tri-County, a long-term disaster recovery initiative made possible through funding from the American Red Cross. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Tri-County Disaster Recovery Group, a coalition of local nonprofits and government agencies dedicated to rebuilding communities in Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy counties following Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
In this role, Hammers will lead a regional effort to coordinate recovery services, conduct outreach to underserved populations, implement a case management system, and facilitate training for local staff, volunteers and partner agencies.
“This role exemplifies our commitment to supporting underserved and storm-impacted communities,” said Amber Miller, President & CEO of United Way North Central Florida. “We are incredibly grateful to the American Red Cross for their funding support and to the Tri-County Disaster Recovery Group for their collaboration. With Katie stepping into this key position, we are poised to make a lasting difference for residents still struggling in the aftermath of these devastating storms.”
The initiative prioritizes long-term support for the region’s most vulnerable populations, including low-income households, elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and those in isolated rural areas.
“I’m honored to join United Way and work alongside such a dedicated network of community leaders through the Tri-County Disaster Recovery Group to lead this important work,” said Katie Hammers, Tri-County Recovery Coordinator. “This is about restoring strength, opportunity, and a sense of stability for the people of Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy counties. I look forward to working closely with our partners and residents to rebuild—together.”
Recover Tri-County is a data-driven, community-led project focused on bridging service gaps and strengthening local capacity. Together with the Tri-County Disaster Recovery Group and support from the American Red Cross, United Way North Central Florida is leading a collaborative recovery effort that puts people first.
