Director of Community Impact

Position Summary: The Director of Community Impact oversees and manages United Way of North Central Florida's (UWNCFL) community impact initiatives including establishing  community investment goals, strategies, and performance measures. They oversee the Community Investment Council, a group of volunteers who make funding recommendations to UWNCFL's Board of Directors, and manages funding for community investments. They seek and implement opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with key stakeholders in the areas of health, education, financial stability, and immediate needs. The Director also supervises a team of three program staff overseeing VITA, ReadingPals, ALICE, FEMA's Emergency Food & Shelter Program, 211, disaster relief, and one-time assistance funds. 

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research community needs and collaborate with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to establish relevant goals and strategies for community investments.
  • Provide support and direction for the Community Investment Council (CIC)including preparation for funding cycles, updates to funding framework, and other internal grant-related issues.
  • Maintain awareness of community needs and maintain close connections with agencies, funded and non-funded.
  • Develop proposals, reports, training tools and other tactics to support the ongoing impact work of the organization.
  • Serve as the liaison to agency partners, working closely with them to define trends in the community that the CIC might need to be aware of as it plans its impact work. Includes facilitating all agency partner meetings, overseeing the Impact Partner Process, and reviewing grant reports to ensure programs are on track.
  • Supervise staff and programs related to: VITA, ReadingPals, 211, Employee Assistance, Disaster Relief, FEMA’s Emergency Food & Shelter Program, and Data Management.
  • Collaborate with Resource Development and other staff to coordinate and execute volunteer experiences.
  • Seek and implement opportunities for partnership and collaboration to further community impact initiatives.
  • Represent UW in community-based initiatives such as the Campaign for Grade Level Reading, ALICE, and others, as necessary.
  • Support the President/CEO in public policy efforts.
  • Work closely with Resource Development, Data Management and Communications to provide testimonials, program outcomes and data to assist in the development and design of targeted campaign materials with an emphasis on visual metrics-based materials.
  • Oversee community outreach to business, government, non-profit, and faith-based agencies to raise awareness about United Way programs including attending community fairs and similar events.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years' successful and progressive experience in project management or social service experience tied to results and accountability performance measures. Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supervisory role. United Way experience a plus.
  • Must be a true team player with the ability to collaborate amongst various personalities and across different social settings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office and computer technology including Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, customer relations skills, creative problem-solving skills, and good judgement. Strong organizational and group leadership skills. Competency in public speaking is essential. 
  • Must communicate effectively with volunteers, leaders, corporate partners, agency partners, media, trade associates, vendors, other United Way branches, United Way Worldwide, and the general public to exchange and collect information. Relationships must be handled in a positive manner to project a positive image of UWNCFL.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with proof of insurance to travel throughout UWNCFL's six-county footprint of Alachua, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, and Union.
  • Occasionally work extended hours to complete special projects or attend events.
  • Must be available to travel to attend United Way conferences at least once annually.

Education: Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit management, social work, or a related field. Experience working in a nonprofit setting with program management is strongly desired. United Way experience is a plus.

Estimated Salary Range: $48,000 - $55,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. Plus a generous benefits package which includes healthcare (UWNCFL pays employee premium), dental, vision, retirement, PTO and holiday pay.
