United Way of North Central Florida selects Amber Miller as president and CEO

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (April 5, 2021) – The United Way of North Central Florida board of directors announced Monday it named Amber Miller as its president and CEO.

Board chair Monica Perez-McMillen said a subcommittee conducted a national search to fill the position and found Miller’s combination of experience and initiative distinguished her as the best choice to build upon UWNCFL’s 60+-year legacy of supporting the community’s most vulnerable. The full board unanimously accepted the recommendation.

“Amber has been an anchor for United Way since becoming Interim CEO, providing stability and leadership to support United Way’s staff, board, donors and partners during a global pandemic,” Perez-McMillen said. “We have watched her grow over these last eight months and are delighted that she has accepted our offer to lead in this role permanently.”

Miller joined UWNCFL January 2018 as senior director of Business & Community Partnerships, overseeing the organization’s community impact process and Small Business United program. She has been serving as interim CEO since August 2020. Prior to joining the United Way, Miller served in a variety of nonprofit leadership roles in marketing and fundraising.

Miller said leading the United Way during one of its, and the community’s, most challenging times taught her much about responding to rapid changes in social service provision. She said she looks forward to building upon that experience to further amplify United Way’s impact.

“I am so grateful and deeply honored to have the privilege of leading United Way into the future for our community. Since becoming interim president and CEO in August, I’ve had the opportunity to connect more deeply with our team, board of directors, and dedicated donors and partners,” Miller said. “I am excited to begin work transforming our organization to better serve the needs of our community, expand our reach and achieve our strategic goals.”
