Small Business Spotlight- Modern Capital Solutions, Inc.

Doug Pratt, Modern Capital Solutions, Inc.

1. Tell us about your business; and what is your business philosophy?
When I started Modern Capital Solutions, Inc., it was after being in the banking industry for many years.  The latest financial crisis changed the way most banks operate, and business lending standards became tougher.  I wanted to create a company that could help a variety of businesses.  In addition to helping traditional banking customers, we can help start up companies, companies with poor credit, and all types of commercial real estate properties.

Modern Capital Solutions, Inc. is a full service commercial finance brokerage firm.  We work with over 70 financial institutions, credit unions, finance companies, insurance companies, and private investors.  We pride ourselves in doing what’s right for the customer and taking some clients from being unbankable to being bankable.

2. Why are you passionate about your commitment to United Way’s Community Investment Fund?
The United Way is great because they vet each organization that is funded through the Community Investment Fund to ensure that they are a responsible choice. Also, since the Community Investment Team is made up of local community leaders, people who understand Gainesville and our community, they choose the organizations to fund that will have the best overall impact.

3. What is something interesting or surprising that most people don’t know about you?
I’m from Michigan, and I named my dog after my favorite hometown beer. She’s a Catahoula Leopard Hound, and her name is  Solsun.

4. What would your older self tell your younger self?
I would tell myself to continue to think outside the box and find a way to do it better.  Always continue to help people and you will be rewarded with something much greater than money: gratitude.

5. Favorite quote?
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.”  - Henry Ford
